Michael Medoway
A voice defined by restraint, rhythm, and emotional clarity — culture-forward storytelling with cinematic precision.
Bio
Michael’s work is defined by his ability to weave culture, emotion, and visual precision into stories that feel both cinematic and deeply human.
Drawing inspiration from Japanese minimalism and the quiet beauty found in restraint, his approach balances vérité realism with refined polish.
His style is shaped in part by his time spent in Japan and shows in work such as Seiko, where discipline, craft, and timeless design guided every frame.
Recognized for his storytelling instincts, Michael was selected for the 2019 Young Directors Award (YDA) and featured in SHOOT’s 2019 New Directors Showcase for his Lexus branded short The Art of the Dunk.
His Detroit Pistons anthem campaign went on to earn a CLIO Award and a shortlist at the ADC Awards.
Michael’s films have been featured in Shots, Little Black Book, BooooooomTV, and Director’s Notes.
Off set, he finds inspiration in basketball courts at dusk, the pages of Haruki Murakami, the ritual of morning coffee, and conversations that linger long after the last glass of red wine is gone.
