The Business of Creativity: Inside LE BOOK Chicago 2025 Chicago's Agency Network

On September 9th, the Dark Barrel Media Chicago team joined an intimate group of top creative professionals at LE BOOK Chicago at the Fairmont Hotel, held in the heart of downtown. The Chicago edition carried a distinctly agency-driven energy as that is what Chicago is known for.
While our LA friends from the LE BOOK team (Ellie, we missed you!) weren’t in attendance this round, the Chicago event had its own unique pulse that was grounded in relationships and real creative problem-solving.
A standout moment was connecting with the team at JNProduction, whose campaigns have long inspired us. Their ability to merge aesthetic precision with emotional storytelling is the kind of work that motivates us to keep pushing creative boundaries at Dark Barrel.
Throughout the day, we had the chance to meet an incredible roster of creative directors, producers, and brand leaders from agencies like Leo Burnett, FCB Chicago, Energy BBDO, VML, Edelman, Razorfish, Dentsu, Havas, and more.
Many conversations were discussed on commercials and others went diving into how experiential and immersive storytelling is reshaping audience engagement. We discussed the evolution of branded experiences that live both on-screen and in the real world, merging strategy, design, and technology to create lasting emotional connections.
From commercial storytelling in a fragmented media landscape to how AI and emerging technologies are transforming creative workflows and production efficiency, the energy in the room was electric. Everyone seemed aligned around a single vision: crafting experiences that audiences don’t just watch, but feel attached to.
We had an incredible conversation with Sal Ursino, Global Art Director at Wilson, about how sports brands continue to push the boundaries of creativity finding new ways to connect culture, performance, and community.
Creative Synergy with FCB Chicago
Over at FCB Chicago, we dove deep into discussing the evolution of storytelling beyond traditional advertising. Speaking with Jessica Farac reminded us how Chicago’s agency community continues to lead with both strategy and soul. Their ability to fuse entertainment with brand identity mirrors much of what drives our own production philosophy: cinematic visuals with measurable impact.
It was especially meaningful to reconnect with the Leo Burnett team who are the leaders in marketing. Having recently collaborated with them on a project, it was great to meet more of the faces behind their work, hear their personal stories about getting into the industry, and see the passion that continues to drive their craft. Their openness and enthusiasm for meaningful storytelling remain as strong as ever. The conversations reminded us that great advertising will always begins with authentic emotional storytelling and ends with unforgettable execution.
As the day wrapped, one thing was clear… Chicago’s creative community is thriving. LE BOOK Chicago 2025 wasn’t just another industry event; it was a celebratory gathering of creatives with the intent on shaping the future of creative communication.
